The Barney’s Warehouse Sale kicked off today at Metropolitan Pavilion. It seemed like an even smaller selection than last year. At opening, everything looked like it was priced at the last clearance price from the store. Also, there weren’t any blue star deals which were the best value of last years sale. The only additional discounts were a small rack of orange tag merchandise which is mostly altered or flawed in some way. There is definitely some nice outerwear in the mix from Armani, Brioni, Barbour, Aspesi, etc and a lot of packaged dress shirts in all sizes including some from Thom Browne. It’s worth stopping by if you weren’t able to check out the clearance section at the department store. Otherwise, I’d recommend waiting until things are discounted further.
Fivestory is hosting a sale at the Bowery Hotel through July 23rd. Enter on 3rd street and inside you’ll find several racks of menswear and sneakers for 60%-80% off retail. Items include Michael Bastian linen shirts, Kitsuné shirts, Orlebar Brown swimming trunks, White Mountaineering Vests, Ovadia shirts, and more. There are some really nice heavy jackets by Ten C for 80% off which is a brand that I wasn’t familiar prior to the sale with but they are turning out some very high quality outerwear.
The Spring 2014 Opening Ceremony sample sale starts today at 76 Mercer in Soho and runs through Sunday. Inside, the menswear section is dominated by the Opening Ceremony brand and collaborations from past seasons. You’ll find a ton of the Elvis line (sweaters for $50 and shirts for $65). There’s a small rack of last year’s Adidas Originals collaboration with a paisley patterned shorts (~$55), pants (~$55), and jackets ($80). There are also some shorts by Gitman for OC ($40) and some water shoes by Timberland for OC in various colors (~$55).
There is a smattering of other brands. The best deal were last year’s Orlebar Brown polos in solid green or orange for $40. We didn’t see any Kenzo and the only Patrik Ervell items we found were Fall/Winter 2012 daypacks for $230. If you’re into the OC brand, definitely check it out. Not a huge selection otherwise.
Bonus: You can use your sample sale receipt at the New York Opening Ceremony stores between now and Sunday to get an additional 15% off sale items.
The Spring 2014 Shipley & Halmos Sample Sale kicked off today and runs through Saturday at 8 Greene st. A wide selection and great prices make this is the best S&H sale that I’ve been to. All shorts are $45, cotton blazers for $125, and shoes for $75. Specifically, we saw some Scottie Pennie Loafers in blue and tan ($75), Rhodes jeans in different colors ($65), and the Stephen sweater ($75 in S, M, and XL). There’s also a table of accessories like ties ($30), belts ($35), socks ($10), and briefcases ($75). Also, if you’ve been snubbed at previous sample sales because you’re not a size medium/32, this sale features sizes from 36-44 in blazers, 8-12 in shoes, and s-xl in everything else.
The Want Agency Sample Sale starts today at 168 Bowery. Menswear highlights include Maison Kitsune, Kitsuné tee, Arc’teryx Veilance, Nudie Jeans, and accessories from WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie.
The Maison Kitsuné selection was pricey but well-represented. Shirts and pants were mostly $150. There were plenty of current season items with highlights in outerwear like the Teddy BiColor Jacket, Satin Jacket ($350), and gingham print jacket ($300). Kitsuné Tee t-shirts were $45 and a few striped polos for $50.
There was an extensive collection of Nudie jeans for mostly $75 with a couple pairs for $50 as well as Nudie shirts and sweaters for around $50.
This season’s Michael Bastian Sample Sale starts today at 210 Eleventh Ave. Ste 300. There’s a nice selection but some of the steepest prices we’ve seen at a sample sale. $100-$190 for shirts. Polos at $80. Many sweaters are over $400. Pants starting at $70 and a suede jacket for ~$1500. Unlike some sample sales, the items here aren’t all sample sizes with a good selection of larger sizes as well. The best value we saw was last year’s plaid linen bomber jacket for ~$250 in size 52. They also have this season’s red printed jacket for ~$450 and this cardigan-track-jacket hybrid.
Head over to The News Showroom at 495 Broadway for their sample sale that started today. The menswear selection starts with racks of $30 unisex Cheap Monday jeans that range across all sizes. Everything else is priced as marked. There was a small selection of Cheap Monday t-shirts (around $20), sweaters (around $40), and jackets ($30-$50). Things get more expensive as you hit the Tim Coppins section where t-shirts (around $50), sweaters (around $200), and jackets (up to $750). Two racks of Public School followed with items like camo shorts ($130) in sizes 32-36, the extended rib cardigan ($200), and denim running $120-$150.
The Officine Generale selection offered the best value with polos running $30-$50, their signature selvedge-trimmed shirts starting at $50, and leather jackets for $550. There weren’t nearly as many Common Projects sneakers to go around as last time with exactly three pairs for sale (each $175) in the afternoon. But overall, a pretty good sale
The Peregrine Showroom Spring 2014 sample sale kicked off today at 89 5th Ave Suite 902. It’s similar to last years sale but with even more bags and more footwear. As usual, there’s a large selection of Oliver Spencer clothing running from $40 for t-shirts up to $250 for coats. Practically everything is from the Spring/Summer 2014 line. Specifically, we spotted the Fisher Jacket ($200), the linen-cotton sweater ($70), and some different flavors of pocket tees ($40). Almost everything from Oliver Spencer was size Medium or 32. However, jean sizing from Chimala ($30-$60) ranged across the board from 26-36. There was also a large selection of Gilded Age items ranging from $25 for t-shirts to $95 for jeans on up to $320 for leathers.
Moving on to footwear, there were a couple pairs of Common Cut boat shoes and chukka boots ($60) as well as footwear from Oliver Spencer ($100). And if you are in the market for a bag, this is definitely the place to be. There was an entire wall of bags from Oliver Spencer ($120), Bill Amberg, and Sandqvist.
The Gant 2014 Spring Sample starts today and runs through Sunday at 225 Fifth Ave. Pricing and selection are on par with the last sample sale with plenty of items from Gant, Gant Rugger, and Gant by Michael Bastian from past and current seasons like the new Gant Rugger Windblown oxfords ($45), Gant Rugger chino shorts ($50), and summer chinos ($50). Most of the Spring 2014 items are size medium but there is a wide selection across the board. I did not leave empty handed. Definitely worth checking out.
